I Wash My Face

Ebay Auctions

If you are into LUSH and you’re the sort of person who shops on Ebay you might be interested in my current auctions. I’m selling a lot of my LUSH stash to make room for new items.

Just thought I would mention it.

Fig Soap

When it comes to washing my body I am totally old school. I don’t really like body washes. For the most part they make me feel a little filmy and I can not use one without following up with a body scrub. You also have to use a loofah and sometimes I forget to toss mine in the was and then I feel grossed out trying to use one. I always think of it as being like a sponge used to clean too many dishes and then left in the water to get moldy. I even get this feeling with new loofahs. I know, I’m weird. Using soap just gives me a fresh clean feeling and I don’t have to battle and skeevy feelings because I just use the water, the soap and my hand. (That sounds dirty, but it isn’t.) My girlfriend is the type that needs something more so she lathers hers up with one of those scratchy, exfoliating bath towels. So if you don’t feel like you could just use plain soap you could get one of those. Or they make these soap sock things on Etsy. (Look I found a nice sage green one for you.)

Now that I have taken you through the how and why I can show you what.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Duross & Langel Fig Soap.

*Please note I took a photo of the actual bar I am using right now, but I can’t find my connector cord. So you’ll have to deal with this one I took in store. Sorry!*

Now, I don’t know much about figs (except they are really ugly flowers) and the only time I have encountered them they were shoved inside a newton and a little too crunchy for me in that way where if you think about how many bugs are probably in factories you need to put the cookie down. I have no idea what fig should smell like.

I do know that this soap smells divine. It’s lightly fruity, but not sickeningly so. (I’m not huge on fruit scents.) It just gives off a nice clean smell that I love.

Here is what the website says about it: “Sweet and richly aromatic Turkish fig makes this moisturizing bar the perfect choice.”

It is moisturizing that is a must have for me and my soaps they can not be drying in the least because there are many days where I forget to put on lotion. In fact when I do remember I feel oddly proud of myself and accomplished. This is much like the way I feel when I get to work on time, which is ridiculous because more people do that everyday. In any case the moisturization (that’s a word, right?) is there and it rocks.

You’re going to notice I talk about different soaps frequently. That isn’t because I don’t enjoy a soap I’m using it is mostly because I like variation so I buy all my soap in tiny bars so that I can use them up quick and get to the next scent. I’ll be sure to let you know if something is a favorite. You can also count on me to tell you when I hate something too. (I have some of those all ready for you.

Duross & Langel Fig Soap

It’s under the section marked Fruit Infused. It cost $7.50 for a 3.5 ounce bar, but if you’re lucky enough to live in Philadelphia they will cut one to any size you would like.

Duross & Langel

I have a favorite company. It would be my best kept beauty secret if I could shut the fuck up about them, but I can’t. If you have ever spoken to me or read anything I write sooner or later you will find out that I love Duross & Langel. You have also probably never heard of them if you don’t live in or near the Philadelphia area. That’s alright. That is what I am here for.

There are many things I could say about Duross & Langel as a company and about their products. What I really want to talk about is how good it feels to purchase items from a place like this. There is nothing like walking into a store and being greeted by the owner. There is nothing like picking up a container of lotion and knowing it was made recently on the premises. That is really freaking cool.

I think it’s important to shop local. I’ll talk frequently about Duross & Langel here on this site and if you want to try something out and order from them online, awesome. The owners are wonderful people and I love their products. More so though I think it is great to look around the place you live now and who is making awesome homemade products around you. You might be surprised. If you don’t live in a big city? Give some of the small business on Etsy a try. I have seen many intriguing looking body products there. Perhaps I’ll get a few at some point just so I can do a review of various shops. Something to think about for the future.

That is my mission for you. Shop homemade, handmade and local as much as possible. Because big corporations suck ass. Plus there is so much we have to go there for inevitably we might away feel a little special with the products we don’t have to. Right?

Biologique Recherche: Lotion P50

This is probably the freakiest product in my skincare line up. I bought it at a recent visit to Rescue a spa in Philadelphia where I got a classic rescue facial. After my facial she recommended a new line of products I should try out (they weren’t sold at the spa, but she told me where I could get them) and told me that the one product they have that I really should add to my regime was this Lotion P50 stuff. So I bought it and took it home with me.

Right now I am breaking out in the worst way probably due to the facial and getting those toxins out so how good this stuff works will be in a future post under the Updates category. I still wanted to talk about it.

I’m pretty holistic when it comes to skin care products. I don’t like a lot of chemicals and I will not buy anything that has been tested on animals. I happen to own and adore two rabbits, which are sadly very commonly used as test subjects for beauty companies. I actually wasn’t able to find information on this companies animal testing policies. Though it is made in Europe where there is a ban on animal testing so perhaps that is why they don’t make a big deal about it.

This product seems much more medicinal and heavy duty than anything else I use now or have ever used.

When you first start using it your skin will get red for a short while afterwards and it will sting for up to 10 days of use or until your skin is balanced. You also might break out a lot more at the beginning because it’s really working to clean out your pores and get rid of all that dirt that you have trapped in there.

The other thing that freaks me out is it is actually a liquid exfoliant. How that is possible, I’m not quite sure. Here is what they say on their website:

“The cornerstone product in the Biologique Recherche line, P50 is an amazing vitamin-enriched exfoliating potion that gently purifies, hydrates, tones, controls sebum and balances the skin, visibly improving many common skin conditions including whiteheads, blackheads and symptoms of rosacea. P50 prepares skin to receive Treatment Stage products by exfoliating and toning. P50 also prevents and treats ingrown hairs, making it ideal for pre- and post-shaving care.

P50 is a client home use must-have to maintain and enhance the results achieved during your professional treatment.

There is a P50 formulation for every skin type. Active ingredients include: usnic acid, lactic acid, witch hazel, myrrh extract, onion extract and sage extract.”

They also make other formulas for sensitive or mature skin.

The company tries to be very elusive with how you can get your hands on their products and while I did buy mine at a spa there are places to get this stuff online.

Price tag: $50 for a 5.1 ounce bottle. Ouch.

Coalface

I am currently using Coalface by LUSH as my facial cleanser. I’ve been using it for about a year now. It has it’s own pros and cons, which I’ll talk about. I have been having some problems with LUSH as a company recently and I’m sure I’ll talk about that soon on here because I always like to dish on companies that piss me off. Okay let’s talk about my face wash.

PROS

  • It’s sort of cool to be using black soap and it looks sparkly. Fun!
  • It is seriously one of the only things that keeps my face breakout free. Yeah, this is a HUGE pro.
  • It lasts a really long time.
  • It’s consistent. It’s not one of those products where I feel like it stops working after a few months of use.

CONS

  • It doesn’t really smell good. This is a pretty moot point being that toner and moisturizer cover the smell anyway, but I feel like being petty.
  • It sometimes develops a film on it, which grosses me out and then I end up cutting off the outside and I feel like that is wasteful.
  • It’s relatively expensive. It runs $10.95 per 3.5 oz bar.
  • I have major beef with LUSH as a company that makes me want to keep my money away from them.

Here is the description straight from LUSH: Removes impurities and tones combination skin
Who would have thought charcoal and liquorice could get along? One is tough and gritty, the other sweet and syrupy. But charcoal and liquorice could just be the odd couple of skin care, teaming up to fight oily, troubled skin in our Coalface cleanser. Powdered charcoal removes impurities and mildly exfoliates while liquorice heals naturally. Sandalwood oil tones the skin (and mediates should charcoal and liquorice disagree about anything).

Yeah…I’m actually in the market for a new one, but if you have no problem with LUSH and oily skin this might be great for you.

Welcome!

Hello there! My name is Angela. You probably already know this because other than following a very excited link from me I’m not sure how you would find this site as of now. In any case I’m glad you’re here. I have a lot to talk to you about.

I enjoy body products about as much as most men enjoy sex. I fantasize about it while I’m at work and when people come in and ask me what I am doing I get flustered and try to suppress thoughts of various soaps. I also look it up at night on google with nothing to illuminate the room, but the computers glow on my face. Suffice it to say I’m pretty addicted. If there were $.25 peep shows where I would go in the booth and someone would show me various lotions you could sign me up.

What was I talking about again? Oh yeah. This is my new website. I made it so I could stop torturing my girlfriend by babbling on and on about which cleanser works best for my skin. I also don’t want my lovely readers at my other blog to turn on me for writing yet another blog about body products.

So, if you’re into this sort of thing then please stick around. I have a lot to tell you about.
